The Image to the Beast Set Up, June 5
[He] deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast. Revelation 13:14. Mar 164.1
The image of the beast will be formed before probation closes; for it is to be the great test for the people of God, by which their eternal destiny will be decided…. Mar 164.2
In Revelation 13 this subject is plainly presented: “I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon. And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed.” Then the miracle-working power is revealed: “And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live. And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed. And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.” Mar 164.3
This is the test that the people of God must have before they are sealed. All who prove their loyalty to God by observing His law, and refusing to accept a spurious sabbath, will rank under the banner of the Lord God Jehovah, and will receive the seal of the living God. Those who yield the truth of heavenly origin, and accept the Sunday sabbath, will receive the mark of the beast…. Mar 164.4
While John was shown the last great struggles of the church with earthly powers, he was also permitted to behold the final victory and deliverance of the faithful…. Looking beyond the smoke and din of the battle, he beheld a company upon Mount Zion with the Lamb, having, instead of the mark of the beast, the “Father’s name written in their foreheads.” Mar 164.5

How the Image to the Beast Evolves, June 10
He exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed. Revelation 13:12. Mar 169.1
In order for the United States to form an image of the beast, the religious power must so control the civil government that the authority of the state will also be employed by the church to accomplish her own ends…. Mar 169.2
The “image to the beast” represents that form of apostate Protestantism which will be developed when the Protestant churches shall seek the aid of the civil power for the enforcement of their dogmas…. Mar 169.3
When Sunday observance shall be enforced by law, and the world shall be enlightened concerning the obligation of the true Sabbath, then whoever shall transgress the command of God, to obey a precept which has no higher authority than that of Rome, will thereby honor popery above God. He is paying homage to Rome and to the power which enforces the institution ordained by Rome. He is worshiping the beast and his image. As men then reject the institution which God has declared to be the sign of His authority, and honor in its stead that which Rome has chosen as the token of her supremacy, they will thereby accept the sign of allegiance to Rome—“the mark of the beast.” And it is not until the issue is thus plainly set before the people, and they are brought to choose between the commandments of God and the commandments of men, that those who continue in transgression will receive “the mark of the beast.”… Mar 169.4
In the issue of the contest all Christendom will be divided into two great classes—those who keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus, and those who worship the beast and his image and receive his mark. Although church and state will unite their power to compel “all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond” (Revelation 13:16), to receive “the mark of the beast,” yet the people of God will not receive it. The prophet of Patmos beholds “them that had gotten the victory over the beast, and over his image, and over his mark, and over the number of his name, stand on the sea of glass, having the harps of God” and singing the song of Moses and the Lamb. Revelation 15:2, 3. Mar 169.5

The Threefold Union of Religion, July 1
And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty. By the decree enforcing the institution of the papacy in violation of the law of God, our nation [the United States] will disconnect herself fully from righteousness. When Protestantism shall stretch her hand across the gulf to grasp the hand of the Roman power, when she shall reach over the abyss to clasp hands with spiritualism, when, under the influence of this threefold union, our country shall repudiate every principle of its Constitution as a Protestant and republican government, and shall make provision for the propagation of papal falsehoods and delusions, then we may know that the time has come for the marvelous working of Satan and that the end is near. Through the two great errors, the immortality of the soul and Sunday sacredness, Satan will bring the people under his deceptions. While the former lays the foundation of spiritualism, the latter creates a bond of sympathy with Rome. The Protestants of the United States will be foremost in stretching their hands across the gulf to grasp the hand of spiritualism; they will reach over the abyss to clasp hands with the Roman power; and under the influence of this threefold union, this country will follow in the steps of Rome in trampling on the rights of conscience…. Papists, Protestants, and worldling will alike accept the form of godliness without the power, and they will see in this union a grand movement for the conversion of the world and the ushering in of the long-expected millennium. Mar 190.4
When our nation [the United States] shall so abjure the principles of its government as to enact a Sunday law, Protestantism will in this act join hands with popery; it will be nothing else than giving life to the tyranny which has long been eagerly watching its opportunity to spring again into active despotism. La imagen de la bestia será formada antes que termine el tiempo de gracia, porque constituirá la gran prueba para el pueblo de Dios, por medio de la cual se decidirá su destino eterno… MSV76 162.2
En Apocalipsis 13 se presenta con claridad este asunto: “Vi otra bestia que subía de la tierra; y tenía dos cuernos semejantes a los de un cordero, pero hablaba como dragón. Y ejerce toda la autoridad de la primera bestia en presencia de ella, y hace que la tierra y los moradores de ella adoren a la primera bestia, cuya herida mortal fue sanada”. Y ejerce toda la autoridad de la primera bestia en presencia de ella, y hace que la tierra y los moradores de ella adoren a la primera bestia, cuya herida mortal fue sanada. Apocalipsis 13:12. MSV76 167.1
Para que los Estados Unidos formen una imagen de la bestia, el poder religioso debe dominar de tal manera al gobierno civil que la autoridad del estado sea empleada también por la iglesia para cumplir sus fines… MSV76 167.2
La “imagen de la bestia” representa la forma de protestantismo apóstata que se desarrollará cuando las iglesias protestantes busquen la ayuda del poder civil para la imposición de sus dogmas… MSV76 167.3
Cuando la observancia del domingo sea impuesta por la ley, y el mundo sea ilustrado respecto a la obligación del verdadero día de descanso, entonces el que transgrediere el mandamiento de Dios para obedecer un precepto que no tiene mayor autoridad que la de Roma, honrará con ello al papado por encima de Dios; rendirá homenaje a Roma y al poder que impone la institución establecida por Roma; adorará la bestia y su imagen. Cuando los hombres rechacen entonces la institución que Dios declaró ser el signo de su autoridad, y honren en su lugar lo que Roma escogió como signo de su supremacía, aceptarán de hecho el signo de la sumisión a Roma, “la marca de la bestia”. Y sólo cuando la cuestión haya sido expuesta así a las claras ante los hombres, y ellos hayan sido llamados a escoger entre los mandamientos de Dios y los mandamientos de los hombres, será cuando los que perseveren en la transgresión recibirán “la marca de la bestia”… MSV76 167.4
Al final de la lucha, toda la cristiandad quedará dividida en dos grandes categorías: Los que guardan los mandamientos de Dios y la fe de Jesús, y los que adoran a la bestia y su imagen, y reciben su marca. Si bien la iglesia y el estado se unirán para obligar a “todos, pequeños y grandes, así ricos como pobres, así libres como esclavos”, a que tengan “la marca de la bestia” (Apocalipsis 13:16 (VM)), el pueblo de Dios no la tendrá. El profeta de Patmos vio que “los que habían salido victoriosos de la prueba de la bestia, y de su imagen, y del número de su nombre, estaban sobre aquel mar de vidrio, teniendo arpas de Dios”, y cantaban el cántico de Moisés y del Cordero.
