Chapter 23\u2014The Seal of God<\/p>\n
\u201cHe cried also in mine ears with a loud voice, saying, Cause them that have charge over the city to draw near, even every man with his destroying weapon in his hand.\u201d 5T 207.2<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd he called to the man clothed with linen, which had the writer’s inkhorn by his side; and the Lord said unto him, Go through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem, and set a mark upon the foreheads of the men that sigh and that cry for all the abominations that be done in the midst thereof. And to the others he said in mine hearing, Go ye after him through the city, and smite: let not your eye spare, neither have ye pity: slay utterly old and young, both maids, and little children, and women: but come not near any man upon whom is the mark; and begin at My sanctuary. Then they began at the ancient men which were before the house.\u201d 5T 207.3<\/p>\n
Jesus is about to leave the mercy seat of the heavenly <\/p>\n
sanctuary to put on garments of vengeance and pour out His wrath in judgments upon those who have not responded to the light God has given them. \u201cBecause sentence against an evil work is not executed speedily, therefore the heart of the sons of men is fully set in them to do evil.\u201d Instead of being softened by the patience and long forbearance that the Lord has exercised toward them, those who fear not God and love not the truth strengthen their hearts in their evil course. But there are limits even to the forbearance of God, and many are exceeding these boundaries. They have overrun the limits of grace, and therefore God must interfere and vindicate His own honor. 5T 207.4<\/p>\n
Of the Amorites the Lord said: \u201cIn the fourth generation they shall come hither again: for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet full.\u201d Although this nation was conspicuous because of its idolatry and corruption, it had not yet filled up the cup of its iniquity, and God would not give command for its utter destruction. The people were to see the divine power manifested in a marked manner, that they might be left without excuse. The compassionate Creator was willing to bear with their iniquity until the fourth generation. Then, if no change was seen for the better, His judgments were to fall upon them. 5T 208.1<\/p>\n
With unerring accuracy the Infinite One still keeps an account with all nations. While His mercy is tendered with calls to repentance, this account will remain open; but when the figures reach a certain amount which God has fixed, the ministry of His wrath commences. The account is closed. Divine patience ceases. There is no more pleading of mercy in their behalf. 5T 208.2<\/p>\n
The prophet, looking down the ages, had this time presented before his vision. The nations of this age have been the recipients of unprecedented mercies. The choicest of heaven’s blessings have been given them, but increased pride, covetousness, idolatry, contempt of God, and base ingratitude are written against them. They are fast closing up their account with God. 5T 208.3<\/p>\n
But that which causes me to tremble is the fact that those who have had the greatest light and privileges have become contaminated by the prevailing iniquity. Influenced by the unrighteous around them, many, even of those who profess the truth, have grown cold and are borne down by the strong current of evil. The universal scorn thrown upon true piety and holiness leads those who do not connect closely with God to lose their reverence for His law. If they were following the light and obeying the truth from the heart, this holy law would seem even more precious to them when thus despised and set aside. As the disrespect for God’s law becomes more manifest, the line of demarcation between its observers and the world becomes more distinct. Love for the divine precepts increases with one class according as contempt for them increases with another class. 5T 209.1<\/p>\n
The crisis is fast approaching. The rapidly swelling figures show that the time for God’s visitation has about come. Although loath to punish, nevertheless He will punish, and that speedily. Those who walk in the light will see signs of the approaching peril; but they are not to sit in quiet, unconcerned expectancy of the ruin, comforting themselves with the belief that God will shelter His people in the day of visitation. Far from it. They should realize that it is their duty to labor diligently to save others, looking with strong faith to God for help. \u201cThe effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.\u201d 5T 209.2<\/p>\n
The leaven of godliness has not entirely lost its power. At the time when the danger and depression of the church are greatest, the little company who are standing in the light will be sighing and crying for the abominations that are done in the land. But more especially will their prayers arise in behalf of the church because its members are doing after the manner of the world. 5T 209.3<\/p>\n
The earnest prayers of this faithful few will not be in vain. When the Lord comes forth as an avenger, He will also come as a protector of all those who have preserved the faith in its purity and kept themselves unspotted from the world. It is at this time that God has promised to avenge His own elect which cry day and night unto Him, though He bear long with them. 5T 210.1<\/p>\n
The command is: \u201cGo through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem, and set a mark upon the foreheads of the men that sigh and that cry for all the abominations that be done in the midst thereof.\u201d These sighing, crying ones had been holding forth the words of life; they had reproved, counseled, and entreated. Some who had been dishonoring God repented and humbled their hearts before Him. But the glory of the Lord had departed from Israel; although many still continued the forms of religion, His power and presence were lacking. 5T 210.2<\/p>\n
In the time when His wrath shall go forth in judgments, these humble, devoted followers of Christ will be distinguished from the rest of the world by their soul anguish, which is expressed in lamentation and weeping, reproofs and warnings. While others try to throw a cloak over the existing evil, and excuse the great wickedness everywhere prevalent, those who have a zeal for God’s honor and a love for souls will not hold their peace to obtain favor of any. Their righteous souls are vexed day by day with the unholy works and conversation of the unrighteous. They are powerless to stop the rushing torrent of iniquity, and hence they are filled with grief and alarm. They mourn before God to see religion despised in the very homes of those who have had great light. They lament and afflict their souls because pride, avarice, selfishness, and deception of almost every kind are in the church. The Spirit of God, which prompts to reproof, is trampled underfoot, while the servants of Satan triumph. God is dishonored, the truth made of none effect. 5T 210.3<\/p>\n
The class who do not feel grieved over their own spiritual declension, nor mourn over the sins of others, will be left without the seal of God. The Lord commissions His messengers, the men with slaughtering weapons in their hands: \u201cGo ye after him through the city, and smite: let not your eye spare, neither have ye pity: slay utterly old and young, both maids, and little children, and women: but come not near any man upon whom is the mark; and begin at My sanctuary. Then they began at the ancient men which were before the house.\u201d 5T 211.1<\/p>\n
Here we see that the church\u2014the Lord’s sanctuary\u2014was the first to feel the stroke of the wrath of God. The ancient men, those to whom God had given great light and who had stood as guardians of the spiritual interests of the people, had betrayed their trust. They had taken the position that we need not look for miracles and the marked manifestation of God’s power as in former days. Times have changed. These words strengthen their unbelief, and they say: The Lord will not do good, neither will He do evil. He is too merciful to visit His people in judgment. Thus \u201cPeace and safety\u201d is the cry from men who will never again lift up their voice like a trumpet to show God’s people their transgressions and the house of Jacob their sins. These dumb dogs that would not bark are the ones who feel the just vengeance of an offended God. Men, maidens, and little children all perish together. 5T 211.2<\/p>\n
The abominations for which the faithful ones were sighing and crying were all that could be discerned by finite eyes, but by far the worst sins, those which provoked the jealousy of the pure and holy God, were unrevealed. The great Searcher of hearts knoweth every sin committed in secret by the workers of iniquity. These persons come to feel secure in their deceptions and, because of His long-suffering, say that the Lord seeth not, and then act as though He had forsaken the earth. But He will detect their hypocrisy and will open before others those sins which they were so careful to hide. 5T 211.3<\/p>\n
No superiority of rank, dignity, or worldly wisdom, no position in sacred office, will preserve men from sacrificing principle when left to their own deceitful hearts. Those who have been regarded as worthy and righteous prove to be ring-leaders in apostasy and examples in indifference and in the abuse of God’s mercies. Their wicked course He will tolerate no longer, and in His wrath He deals with them without mercy. 5T 212.1<\/p>\n
It is with reluctance that the Lord withdraws His presence from those who have been blessed with great light and who have felt the power of the word in ministering to others. They were once His faithful servants, favored with His presence and guidance; but they departed from Him and led others into error, and therefore are brought under the divine displeasure. 5T 212.2<\/p>\n
The day of God’s vengeance is just upon us. The seal of God will be placed upon the foreheads of those only who sigh and cry for the abominations done in the land. Those who link in sympathy with the world are eating and drinking with the drunken and will surely be destroyed with the workers of iniquity. \u201cThe eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and His ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil.\u201d 5T 212.3<\/p>\n
Our own course of action will determine whether we shall receive the seal of the living God or be cut down by the destroying weapons. Already a few drops of God’s wrath have fallen upon the earth; but when the seven last plagues shall be poured out without mixture into the cup of His indignation, then it will be forever too late to repent and find shelter. No atoning blood will then wash away the stains of sin. 5T 212.4<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, everyone that shall be found written in the book.\u201d When this time of trouble comes, every case is decided; there is no longer probation, no longer mercy for the impenitent. The seal of the living God is upon His people. This small remnant, unable to defend themselves in the deadly conflict with the powers of earth that are marshaled by the dragon host, make God their defense. The decree has been passed by the highest earthly authority that they shall worship the beast and receive his mark under pain of persecution and death. May God help His people now, for what can they then do in such a fearful conflict without His assistance! 5T 212.5<\/p>\n
Courage, fortitude, faith, and implicit trust in God’s power to save do not come in a moment. These heavenly graces are acquired by the experience of years. By a life of holy endeavor and firm adherence to the right the children of God were sealing their destiny. Beset with temptations without number, they knew they must resist firmly or be conquered. They felt that they had a great work to do, and at any hour they might be called to lay off their armor; and should they come to the close of life with their work undone, it would be an eternal loss. They eagerly accepted the light from heaven, as did the first disciples from the lips of Jesus. When those early Christians were exiled to mountains and deserts, when left in dungeons to die with hunger, cold, and torture, when martyrdom seemed the only way out of their distress, they rejoiced that they were counted worthy to suffer for Christ, who was crucified for them. Their worthy example will be a comfort and encouragement to the people of God who will be brought into the time of trouble such as never was. 5T 213.1<\/p>\n
Not all who profess to keep the Sabbath will be sealed. There are many even among those who teach the truth to others who will not receive the seal of God in their foreheads. They had the light of truth, they knew their Master’s will, they understood every point of our faith, but they had not corresponding works. These who were so familiar with prophecy and the treasures of divine wisdom should have acted their faith. They should have commanded their households after them, that by a well-ordered family they might present to the world the influence of the truth upon the human heart. 5T 213.2<\/p>\n
By their lack of devotion and piety, and their failure to reach a high religious standard, they make other souls contented with their position. Men of finite judgment cannot see that in patterning after these men who have so often opened to them the treasures of God’s word, they will surely endanger their souls. Jesus is the only true pattern. Everyone must now search the Bible for himself upon his knees before God, with the humble, teachable heart of a child, if he would know what the Lord requires of him. However high any minister may have stood in the favor of God, if he neglects to follow out the light given him of God, if he refuses to be taught as a little child, he will go into darkness and satanic delusions and will lead others in the same path. 5T 214.1<\/p>\n
Not one of us will ever receive the seal of God while our characters have one spot or stain upon them. It is left with us to remedy the defects in our characters, to cleanse the soul temple of every defilement. Then the latter rain will fall upon us as the early rain fell upon the disciples on the Day of Pentecost. 5T 214.2<\/p>\n
We are too easily satisfied with our attainments. We feel rich and increased with goods and know not that we are \u201cwretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked.\u201d Now is the time to heed the admonition of the True Witness: \u201cI counsel thee to buy of Me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.\u201d 5T 214.3<\/p>\n
In this life we must meet fiery trials and make costly sacrifices, but the peace of Christ is the reward. There has been so little self-denial, so little suffering for Christ’s sake, that the cross is almost entirely forgotten. We must be partakers with Christ of His sufferings if we would sit down in triumph with Him on His throne. So long as we choose the easy path of self-indulgence and are frightened at self-denial, our faith will never become firm, and we cannot know the peace of Jesus nor the joy that comes through conscious victory. The most exalted of the redeemed host that stand before the throne of God and the Lamb, clad in white, know the conflict of overcoming, for they have come up through great tribulation. Those who have yielded to circumstances rather than engage in this conflict will not know how to stand in that day when anguish will be upon every soul, when, though Noah, Job, and Daniel were in the land, they could save neither son nor daughter, for everyone must deliver his soul by his own righteousness. 5T 215.1<\/p>\n
No one need say that his case is hopeless, that he cannot live the life of a Christian. Ample provision is made by the death of Christ for every soul. Jesus is our ever-present help in time of need. Only call upon Him in faith, and He has promised to hear and answer your petitions. 5T 215.2<\/p>\n
Oh, for a living, active faith! We need it; we must have it, or we shall faint and fail in the day of trial. The darkness that will then rest upon our path must not discourage us or drive us to despair. It is the veil with which God covers His glory when He comes to impart rich blessings. We should know this by our past experience. In that day when God has a controversy with His people this experience will be a source of comfort and hope. 5T 215.3<\/p>\n
It is now that we must keep ourselves and our children unspotted from the world. It is now that we must wash our robes of character and make them white in the blood of the Lamb. It is now that we must overcome pride, passion, and spiritual slothfulness. It is now that we must awake and make determined effort for symmetry of character. \u201cToday if ye will hear His voice, harden not your hearts.\u201d We are in a most trying position, waiting, watching for our Lord’s appearing. The world is in darkness. \u201cBut ye, brethren,\u201d says Paul, \u201care not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.\u201d It is ever God’s purpose to bring light out of darkness, joy out of sorrow, and rest out of weariness for the waiting, longing soul. 5T 215.4<\/p>\n
What are you doing, brethren, in the great work of preparation? Those who are uniting with the world are receiving the worldly mold and preparing for the mark of the beast. Those who are distrustful of self, who are humbling themselves before God and purifying their souls by obeying the truth\u2014these are receiving the heavenly mold and preparing for the seal of God in their foreheads. When the decree goes forth and the stamp is impressed, their character will remain pure and spotless for eternity. 5T 216.1<\/p>\n
Now is the time to prepare. The seal of God will never be placed upon the forehead of an impure man or woman. It will never be placed upon the forehead of the ambitious, world-loving man or woman. It will never be placed upon the forehead of men or women of false tongues or deceitful hearts. All who receive the seal must be without spot before God\u2014candidates for heaven. Go forward, my brethren and sisters. I can only write briefly upon these points at this time, merely calling your attention to the necessity of preparation. Search the Scriptures for yourselves, that you may understand the fearful solemnity of the present hour. 5T 216.2<\/p>\n

Pero lo que me hace temblar es el hecho de que aquellos que han tenido la mayor luz y los mayores privilegios han sido contaminados por la iniquidad prevaleciente. Bajo la influencia de los injustos que los rodean, muchos, aun de entre los que profesan la verdad, se han enfriado y son arrastrados por la fuerte corriente del mal. El desprecio universal en que se tiene la verdadera piedad y santidad, induce a los que no se relacionan estrechamente con Dios a perder la reverencia a su ley. Si estuviesen siguiendo la luz y obedeciendo de todo coraz\u00f3n la verdad, esta santa ley les parecer\u00eda a\u00fan m\u00e1s preciosa cuando tanto se la desprecia y desecha. A medida que la falta de respeto por la ley de Dios se vuelve m\u00e1s manifiesta, se hace m\u00e1s distinta la l\u00ednea de demarcaci\u00f3n entre sus observadores y el mundo. El amor hacia los preceptos divinos aumenta en una clase de personas en la medida en que en otra clase aumenta el desprecio hacia ellos. 5TI 194.3<\/p>\n
La crisis se est\u00e1 acercando r\u00e1pidamente. Las cifras que suben velozmente demuestran que est\u00e1 por llegar el tiempo de la visitaci\u00f3n de Dios. Aunque le repugna castigar, castigar\u00e1 sin embargo, y lo har\u00e1 prestamente. La levadura de la piedad no ha perdido todo su poder. En el tiempo en que son mayores el peligro y la depresi\u00f3n de la iglesia, el peque\u00f1o grupo que se mantiene en la luz estar\u00e1 suspirando y clamando por las abominaciones que se cometen en la tierra. Pero sus oraciones ascender\u00e1n m\u00e1s especialmente en favor de la iglesia, porque sus miembros est\u00e1n obrando a la manera del mundo. 5TI 195.1<\/p>\n
No ser\u00e1n vanas las oraciones de estos pocos fieles. Cuando el Se\u00f1or salga como vengador, vendr\u00e1 tambi\u00e9n como protector de todos aquellos que hayan conservado la fe en su pureza y se hayan mantenido sin mancha del mundo. Ser\u00e1 entonces el tiempo en que Dios prometi\u00f3 vengar a sus escogidos que claman d\u00eda y noche, aunque sea long\u00e1nime con ellos. 5TI 195.2<\/p>\n
La orden es: \u201cPasa por medio de la ciudad, por medio de Jerusalem, y pon una se\u00f1al en la frente a los hombres que gimen y que claman a causa de todas las abominaciones que se hacen en medio de ella\u201d. Ezequiel 9:4. Estos que suspiran y lloran han estado ofreciendo las palabras de vida; han reprendido, han aconsejado y suplicado. Algunos de los que estaban deshonrando a Dios se han arrepentido y han humillado su coraz\u00f3n delante de \u00e9l. Pero la gloria del Se\u00f1or se ha apartado de Israel; aunque muchos perseveraban en las formas de la religi\u00f3n, faltaban el poder y la presencia de Dios. 5TI 195.3<\/p>\n
En el tiempo en que su ira se manifieste con castigos, estos humildes y consagrados disc\u00edpulos de Cristo se distinguir\u00e1n del resto del mundo por la angustia de su alma, expresada en lamentaciones y lloros, reproches y amonestaciones. Mientras que otros procuran arrojar un manto sobre el mal existente, y excusar la gran impiedad que prevalece por doquiera, los que tienen celo por el honor de Jehov\u00e1 y amor por las almas no callar\u00e1n para obtener el favor humano. Sus almas justas se afligen d\u00eda tras d\u00eda por las obras y conversaciones profanas de los imp\u00edos. Son impotentes para detener el torrente de la iniquidad; de ah\u00ed que se llenen de pesar y alarma. Lloran delante de Dios al ver la religi\u00f3n despreciada en los mismos hogares de aquellos que han tenido gran luz. Se lamentan y afligen sus almas porque en la iglesia hay orgullo, avaricia, ego\u00edsmo y enga\u00f1o de casi toda clase. El Esp\u00edritu de Dios, que inspira la reprensi\u00f3n, es pisoteado, mientras triunfan los siervos de Satan\u00e1s. Dios queda deshonrado, la verdad anulada. 5TI 195.4<\/p>\n
Los que no sienten pesar por su propia decadencia espiritual ni lloran sobre los pecados ajenos quedar\u00e1n sin el sello de Dios. Aqu\u00ed vemos que la iglesia, el santuario del Se\u00f1or, era la primera en sentir los golpes de la ira de Dios. Los ancianos, aquellos a quienes Dios hab\u00eda brindado gran luz, que se hab\u00edan destacado como guardianes de los intereses espirituales del pueblo, hab\u00edan traicionado su cometido. Hab\u00edan asumido la actitud de que no necesitamos esperar milagros ni la se\u00f1alada manifestaci\u00f3n del poder de Dios como en tiempos anteriores. Los tiempos han cambiado. Estas palabras fortalecen su incredulidad, y dicen: El Se\u00f1or no har\u00e1 bien ni mal. Es demasiado misericordioso para castigar a su pueblo. As\u00ed el clamor de paz y seguridad es dado por hombres que no volver\u00e1n a elevar la voz como trompeta para mostrar al pueblo de Dios sus transgresiones y a la casa de Jacob sus pecados. Estos perros mudos que no quer\u00edan ladrar, son los que sienten la justa venganza de un Dios ofendido. Hombres, j\u00f3venes y ni\u00f1itos, todos perecen juntos. 5TI 196.2<\/p>\n
Las abominaciones por las cuales los fieles suspiraban y lloraban, eran todo lo que pod\u00edan discernir los ojos finitos; pero los pecados mucho peores, los que provocaron los celos del Dios puro y santo, no estaban revelados. El gran Escrutador de los corazones conoce todo pecado cometido en secreto por los obradores de iniquidad. Estas personas llegan a sentirse seguras en sus enga\u00f1os, y a causa de la longanimidad del Se\u00f1or dicen que no ve, y luego act\u00faan como si hubiese abandonado la tierra. Pero \u00e9l descubrir\u00e1 su hipocres\u00eda, y revelar\u00e1 a otros esos pecados que ellos ocultaban con tanto cuidado. 5TI 196.3<\/p>\n
Ninguna superioridad de jerarqu\u00eda, dignidad o sabidur\u00eda humana, ning\u00fan cargo sagrado, impedir\u00e1n a estos hombres que sacrifiquen los principios cuando sean abandonados a su propio coraz\u00f3n enga\u00f1oso. Los que fueron considerados como dignos y justos resultan ser los caudillos de la apostas\u00eda y dan ejemplos de indiferencia y abuso de las misericordias de Dios. Ya no tolerar\u00e1 \u00e9l su conducta imp\u00eda, y en su ira, obra con ellos sin misericordia. 5TI 197.1<\/p>\n
De muy mala gana retrae el Se\u00f1or su presencia de aquellos a quienes bendijo con gran luz, y que sintieron el poder de la Palabra administrada a otros. Fueron una vez sus siervos fieles, favorecidos por su presencia y direcci\u00f3n; pero se apartaron de \u00e9l e indujeron a otros al error y por lo tanto caen bajo el desagrado divino. 5TI 197.2<\/p>\n
El d\u00eda de la venganza de Dios est\u00e1 por sobrecogernos. El sello de Dios ser\u00e1 puesto \u00fanicamente sobre las frentes de aquellos que suspiran y lloran por las abominaciones que son cometidas en la tierra. Los que simpatizan con el mundo, comen y beben con los borrachos, ser\u00e1n destruidos con los que hacen iniquidad. \u201cPorque los ojos del Se\u00f1or est\u00e1n sobre los justos, y sus o\u00eddos atentos a sus oraciones: pero el rostro del Se\u00f1or est\u00e1 sobre aquellos que hacen mal\u201d. 1 Pedro 3:12. 5TI 197.3<\/p>\n
Nuestra propia conducta determina si recibiremos el sello del Dios viviente, o si seremos abatidos por las armas destructoras. Ya han ca\u00eddo sobre la tierra algunas gotas de la ira divina; pero cuando se derramen las siete \u00faltimas plagas sin mixtura en la copa de su indignaci\u00f3n entonces ser\u00e1 para siempre demasiado tarde para arrepentirse y hallar refugio. No habr\u00e1 entonces sangre expiatoria que lave las manchas del pecado. 5TI 197.4<\/p>\n
\u201cY en aquel tiempo se levantar\u00e1 Miguel, el gran pr\u00edncipe que est\u00e1 por los hijos de tu pueblo: y ser\u00e1 tiempo de angustia, cual nunca fue despu\u00e9s que hubo gente hasta entonces: mas en aquel tiempo ser\u00e1 libertado tu pueblo, todos los que se hallaren escritos en el libro\u201d. Daniel 12:1. Cuando llegue ese tiempo de angustia, cada caso se habr\u00e1 decidido, ya no habr\u00e1 tiempo de gracia ni misericordia para el impenitente. El sello del Dios vivo estar\u00e1 sobre su pueblo. Este peque\u00f1o remanente, incapaz de defenderse en el mort\u00edfero conflicto con las potestades de la tierra mandadas por la hueste del drag\u00f3n, hace de Dios su defensa. Ha sido promulgado por la m\u00e1s alta autoridad terrestre el decreto de que adoren a la bestia y reciban su marca bajo pena de persecuci\u00f3n y muerte. \u00a1Dios ayude entonces a su pueblo! porque \u00bfqu\u00e9 podr\u00eda hacer sin su ayuda en un conflicto tan terrible? 5TI 197.5<\/p>\n
No se adquieren en un momento el valor, la fortaleza, la fe y la confianza impl\u00edcita en el poder de Dios para salvarnos. Estas gracias celestiales se adquieren por la experiencia de a\u00f1os. Por una vida de santo esfuerzo y de firme adhesi\u00f3n a lo recto, los hijos de Dios estaban sellando su destino. Asediados de innumerables tentaciones, sab\u00edan que deb\u00edan resistir firmemente o quedar vencidos. Sent\u00edan que ten\u00edan una gran obra que hacer, que a cualquier hora pod\u00edan ser llamados a deponer su armadura; y que si llegaran al fin de su vida sin haber hecho su obra, ello representar\u00eda una p\u00e9rdida eterna. Aceptaron \u00e1vidamente la luz del cielo, como la aceptaron de los labios de Jes\u00fas los primeros disc\u00edpulos. Cuando estos cristianos primitivos eran desterrados a las monta\u00f1as y los desiertos, cuando en las mazmorras se los dejaba morir de hambre, fr\u00edo y tortura, cuando el martirio parec\u00eda la \u00fanica manera de escapar a su angustia, se regocijaban de que eran tenidos por dignos de sufrir para Cristo, quien hab\u00eda sido crucificado en su favor. Su ejemplo ser\u00e1 un consuelo y est\u00edmulo para el pueblo de Dios que sufrir\u00e1 un tiempo de angustia como nunca lo hubo. 5TI 198.1<\/p>\n
No todos los que profesan observar el s\u00e1bado ser\u00e1n sellados. Aun entre los que ense\u00f1an la verdad a otros hay muchos que no recibir\u00e1n el sello de Dios en sus frentes. Tuvieron la luz de la verdad, conocieron la voluntad de su Maestro, comprendieron todo punto de nuestra fe, pero no hicieron las obras correspondientes. Los que conocieron tan bien la profec\u00eda y los tesoros de la sabidur\u00eda divina, debieran haber actuado de acuerdo con su fe. Debieran haber mandado a sus familias tras s\u00ed, para que por medio de un hogar bien ordenado, pudiesen presentar al mundo la influencia de la verdad sobre el coraz\u00f3n humano. 5TI 198.2<\/p>\n
Por su falta de devoci\u00f3n y piedad, por no haber alcanzado una alta norma religiosa, contribuyen a que otras almas se conformen con su situaci\u00f3n. Los hombres de juicio finito no pueden ver que al seguir el modelo de estos hombres, que tan a menudo les comunicaron los tesoros de la Palabra de Dios, pondr\u00e1n ciertamente en peligro sus almas. Jes\u00fas es el \u00fanico modelo. Cada uno debe escudri\u00f1ar la Biblia por su cuenta, de rodillas delante de Dios, con el coraz\u00f3n humilde y susceptible de ser ense\u00f1ado como el de un ni\u00f1o, si quiere conocer lo que el Se\u00f1or requiere de \u00e9l. Por muy grande que sea la altura en que haya estado cualquier ministro en el favor de Dios, si deja de seguir la luz que Dios le dio, si se niega a ser ense\u00f1ado como un ni\u00f1ito, caer\u00e1 con las tinieblas y los enga\u00f1os sat\u00e1nicos, y conducir\u00e1 a otros por la misma senda. 5TI 199.1<\/p>\n
Ninguno de nosotros recibir\u00e1 jam\u00e1s el sello de Dios mientras nuestros caracteres tengan una mancha. Nos toca a nosotros remediar los defectos de nuestro car\u00e1cter, limpiar el templo del alma de toda contaminaci\u00f3n. Entonces la lluvia tard\u00eda caer\u00e1 sobre nosotros como cay\u00f3 la lluvia temprana sobre los disc\u00edpulos en el d\u00eda de Pentecost\u00e9s. 5TI 199.2<\/p>\n
Nos conformamos con demasiada facilidad con lo que hemos alcanzado. Nos sentimos ricos y con abundancia de bienes, y no sabemos que cada uno de nosotros es un \u201ccuitado y miserable y pobre y ciego y desnudo\u201d. Apocalipsis 3:17. Ahora es el momento de oir la amonestaci\u00f3n del Testigo fiel: \u201cYo te amonesto que de m\u00ed compres oro afinado en fuego, para que seas hecho rico, y seas vestido de vestiduras blancas, para que no se descubra la verg\u00fcenza de tu desnudez; y unge tus ojos con colirio, para que veas\u201d. vers. 18. 5TI 199.3<\/p>\n
En esta vida debemos arrostrar pruebas de fuego y hacer sacrificios costosos, pero la paz de Cristo es la recompensa. Ha habido tan poca abnegaci\u00f3n, tan poco sufrimiento por amor a Cristo, que la cruz queda casi completamente olvidada. Debemos participar de los sufrimientos de Cristo si queremos sentarnos en triunfo con \u00e9l sobre su trono. Mientras elijamos la senda f\u00e1cil de la complacencia propia y nos asuste la abnegaci\u00f3n, nuestra fe no llegar\u00e1 nunca a ser firme, y no podremos conocer la paz de Jes\u00fas ni el gozo que proviene de una victoria consciente. Los m\u00e1s encumbrados de la hueste redimida que estar\u00e1n vestidos de blanco delante del trono de Dios y del Cordero, habr\u00e1n conocido el conflicto necesario para vencer, porque habr\u00e1n pasado por la gran tribulaci\u00f3n. Los que hayan cedido a las circunstancias en vez de empe\u00f1arse en este conflicto, no sabr\u00e1n c\u00f3mo subsistir en aquel d\u00eda cuando la angustia domine a toda alma, cuando, si No\u00e9, Job y Daniel estuviesen en la tierra no salvar\u00edan \u201chijo ni hija\u201d, pues cada uno habr\u00e1 de librar su alma por su propia justicia. 5TI 199.4<\/p>\n
Nadie necesita decir que su caso es desesperado, que no puede vivir como cristiano. Con la muerte de Cristo ha sido hecha amplia provisi\u00f3n para toda alma. Jes\u00fas es nuestro auxilio constante en tiempo de necesidad. Invoqu\u00e9mosle con fe, que \u00e9l prometi\u00f3 o\u00edr y contestar nuestras peticiones. 5TI 200.1<\/p>\n
\u00a1Ojal\u00e1 que tengamos fe viva y activa! La necesitaremos; debemos tenerla, o desmayaremos y caeremos en el d\u00eda de la prueba. Las tinieblas que descansar\u00e1n entonces sobre nuestra senda, no deben desalentarnos ni desesperarnos. Son el velo con que Dios cubre su gloria cuando viene a impartir ricas bendiciones. Por nuestra experiencia pasada, debemos saber esto. En aquel d\u00eda en que Dios tenga controversia con su pueblo, esta experiencia ser\u00e1 una fuente de consuelo y esperanza. 5TI 200.2<\/p>\n
Ahora es cuando debemos guardarnos a nosotros mismos y a nuestros hijos sin contaminaci\u00f3n del mundo. Ahora debemos lavar las ropas de nuestro car\u00e1cter y emblanquecerlas en la sangre del Cordero. Debemos despertar ahora, y vencer el orgullo, la pasi\u00f3n y la ociosidad espiritual. Ahora debemos despertarnos y hacer un esfuerzo resuelto para lograr simetr\u00eda de car\u00e1cter. \u201cSi oyereis hoy su voz, no endurezc\u00e1is vuestros corazones\u201d. Hebreos 3:7, 8, 15. Estamos en una situaci\u00f3n muy penosa, aguardando y velando por la aparici\u00f3n de nuestro Se\u00f1or. El mundo est\u00e1 en tinieblas. \u201cMas vosotros, hermanos, -dice Pablo- no est\u00e1is en tinieblas, para que aquel d\u00eda os sobrecoja como ladr\u00f3n\u201d. 1 Tesalonicenses 5:4. El prop\u00f3sito de Dios consiste siempre en sacar luz de las tinieblas, gozo del pesar, y descanso del cansancio para el alma que aguarda anhelante. 5TI 200.3<\/p>\n
\u00bfQu\u00e9 est\u00e1is haciendo, hermanos, en la gran obra de preparaci\u00f3n? Los que se unen con el mundo reciben su molde y se preparan para recibir la marca de la bestia. Los que desconf\u00edan de s\u00ed mismos, se humillan delante de Dios y purifican sus almas obedeciendo a la verdad, son los que reciben el molde celestial y se preparan para tener el sello de Dios en sus frentes. Cuando se promulgue el decreto y se estampe el sello, su car\u00e1cter permanecer\u00e1 puro y sin mancha para la eternidad. 5TI 200.4<\/p>\n
Ahora es el momento de prepararse. El sello de Dios no ser\u00e1 nunca puesto en la frente de un hombre o una mujer que sean impuros. Nunca ser\u00e1 puesto sobre la frente de seres humanos ambiciosos y amadores del mundo. Nunca ser\u00e1 puesto sobre la frente de hombres y mujeres de coraz\u00f3n falso o enga\u00f1oso. Todos los que reciban el sello deber\u00e1n estar sin mancha delante de Dios y ser candidatos para el cielo. Avanzad, mis hermanos y hermanas. Puedo escribir s\u00f3lo brevemente acerca de estos puntos en este momento y llamar simplemente vuestra atenci\u00f3n a la necesidad de prepararse. Escudri\u00f1ad las Escrituras por vosotros mismos a fin de comprender la terrible solemnidad de la hora actual. 5TI 201.1<\/p>\n
